Not only does the Rideau Canal’s clear water invite swimming, but it’s also a mecca for boaters. Well-marked with buoys, it’s very easy to navigate and offers unsurpassed viewing of scenery, wildlife and history. Create memories with us - plan on touring the Rideau corridor.

The Rideau Lakes play host to six beautiful lock stations in the Rideau Canal system – Jones Falls, Davis Lock, Chaffey’s Lock, Newboro Lock, Narrows Lock and Poonamalie Lock - and some of the most pristine lakes and welcoming waterfront communities.

Paddling Our Lakes & Rivers

Paddling a canoe or kayak is a great way to explore the wealth of wonderful waterways that are the focus of the Township of Rideau Lakes, enjoy the great outdoors and get some exercise. Unlike powerboats, canoes and kayaks do not have to follow the channel on the Rideau, which allows for amazing opportunities to view wildlife, intriguing shorelines, bays and inlets. Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars! Hats, sunscreen and drinking water are recommended. Please be sure to respect the environment and always carry out what you carry in. Paddlers can experience locking through at lock stations along the canal, or can choose to portage around the locks. We recommend locking through at least once to get the full Rideau Canal water experience!

The Rideau Heritage Route offers an extensive paddling itinerary and information tailored for exploring the World Heritage Destination, Rideau Canal in a kayak or canoe.

Paddling the Beverley Lakes also make for great day trips, including beaches, play and picnic areas, as well as camp facilities.
